According to a study conducted by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, there are an estimated 420,000 ATMs in the United States. And the fees that banks and credit unions charge non-customers/members for using them (aka, “Foreign ATM Fees”) have increased 20% from an average $1.75 per transaction in 2007 to $2.10 in 2012.
While some institutions charge as little as 45 cents for non-customer/member use, others have fees as high as $5. In addition to the amounts of the fees going up, more financial institutions are charging them too. Over the past five years, that number has increased from 87% to 96% as banks look to offset increased costs.
However, as the study also notes, consumers have many ways to obtain cash without incurring fees. 3Rivers is no exception. We have a variety of checking options – each designed to meet specific needs of a varied membership base:
- 3Rivers Members have access to tens of thousands of surcharge-free ATMs across the nation (note: depending upon which account you have with us, a $1/transaction foreign ATM fee may be applicable if you use those ATMs).
- Many of our checking accounts don’t charge foreign ATM fees – meaning you have completely free access to ATMs NATIONWIDE – just look for the AllianceOne, CU24 and Co-Op logos on the ATMs (or click here to find a surcharge free ATM near you).
- With Rhythm Checking, we’ll REFUND ATM SURCHARGES (up to $12 per month, $3 per transaction) if you incur any (monthly qualification requirements apply).

So, week one of the NFL season is in the books. How’s your fantasy team (or teams) faring? Have you already dropped John Skelton for Mark Sanchez? Wondering why you took Kansas City’s defense in the eighth round?
Whether you’re leader of the pack or wallowing in the cellar, remember it’s only the first week. But, if you’re the fantasy league treasurer, instead of griping about how much of a pain in the you-know-what it is, use our free Online Bill Pay to make it easier on yourself.
I know, you’re thinking “Bill Pay? For my Fantasy League?”
Stick with me. I’ve done this before. And you can too! It will make your life easier and the rest of your league will be in awe of your brilliance.
You can “Pay a Person” with Online Bill Pay just like you would any company or business. All account and routing numbers are shared through secure interfaces, so the people you pay will never know your account number, nor will they ever know yours.
Once you sign in, go to the payments screen and click the “Add a Person” radial button. Then, enter just a few details about that person (name, email address, phone, etc.). As you walk through the steps, you’ll be asked to provide a keyword that you will privately share with that person.
Once you’ve entered those details, you’ll be asked to activate the person. To activate, you will need to enter a code that can be obtained by phone, sms or email. From there, you can issue your payment to that person just like you would any other bill.
In the meantime, the person you are adding will receive an email with a link. When they click it, they will be asked to provide their account number, routing number, account type and the keyword your privately shared with them. After that is complete, the money will be issued directly into their account.
Pretty easy huh?
Now, I’d like to talk to you about a trade involving my third-string kicker…
